After many happy hours spent in my kitchen creating a dozen tiny Japanese dishes, I’m thoroughly spent. So I will save the details for as many blogs over the next couple of weeks. The food and the photographs both turned out beautifully, and will be revealed one at a time. So check back daily through the end of the month to see what tasty morsels we enjoyed this evening.

The unusual assortment of sembei in today’s photograph were a gift from the Takyo family. Mother Harumi, and her two daughters, Rei and Kei, came for a visit from Japan last week and gifted me with two extravagant boxes of sembei. The Takyo girls were two of my students when I worked as a private tutor to Japanese children whose fathers worked for the Japan Airlines flight training school at our tiny little airport here in Napa. They have since grown up to be beautiful and successful young women, and my visit with them has certainly been the highlight of the season.
