About Jan Dara

Chopstick Cinema

This Week's Film: Jan Dara
Cuisine: Thai

I’m always on the lookout for interesting Asian films to feature on Chopstick Cinema. And with my new weekly format, I now have the luxury of choosing 50 films per year, instead of only twelve, so instead of focusing on blockbusters and sweeping epics, I can also feature smaller films such as Jan Dara. Here is the NetFlix synopsis:

“Director Nonzee Nimibutr's haunting drama, which takes inspiration from a popular Thai novel, uncovers an estranged son's (Santisuk Promsiri) disturbing attempts to get back at his father. Soon after his mother dies during his delivery, Jan Dara's cold-hearted dad takes up with a nanny and disowns his son, leaving the boy to fend for himself. When he grows up, Jan Dara sets out for revenge, using sex as his weapon.”

Join me throughout the week on Chopstick Cinema for a closer look at the food and the film. My film review will be posted at the end of the week, along with my Thai curry recipe.
