About Suzhou Cusine
This Week's Film: Pavilion of Women
Since Pavilion of Women was filmed in and around the Chinese city of Suzhou in the province of Jiangsu, I though it appropriate to try a dish from that region. Suzhou is known for its rich ancient culture and fine cuisine. Founded in 514 BC, it is home to some of the world’s oldest restaurants, and has even been dubbed “Paradise on Earth”. In style, Suzhou cuisine tends toward sweet, with local seafood and fresh vegetables among its main components. Some of Suzhou’s most famous dishes include Mandarin "Squirrel" Fish, Shark’s Fin Soup, Beggar’s Chicken, Cherry Pork, Braised Duck, and Mooncakes.
My Suzhou recipe will be posted at the end of the week along with my Pavilion of Women film review.
