About South Indian Cuisine

Chopstick Cinema

This Week's Film: Raavanan
Cuisine: South Indian

The flood plains of South India yield an abundance of rice, lentils, and other agricultural products to feed a largely vegetarian population. However, South Indian cuisine is also characterized by its use of seafood, tropical fruit, and curries spiced with black pepper, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and ginger, and ablaze with fiery chili peppers.

When it comes to curry, even the word itself originated in South India. The word curry is a derivation of ‘kari’, the Tamil word for sauce or gravy.

My South Indian curry recipe will be posted at the end of the week along with my film review of Raavanan.
